When I'm a Teacher
So, thus far in the semester I have determined that our schools, in laymen's terms, suck. I mean, where has sanity gone? Where has the ability to think gone? Oh, thats right, to the government, or should I say "The High and Almighty?" That's what it seems like. It seems to me as though there is a very easy system that they have come up with: We feed them money, they listen to us and do as we say, and if they don't then we don't feed them money." Now, I wonder who's going to "disobey." The sad thing is that I have noticed just from observing my brother (who is in high school) this year that his teachers, and especially his principle, couldn't be less concerned with the itellect and opinion of the students. Their goal has become to get raises each semester. I remember in high school we had several of our teachers tell us in class that we needed to pay attention so that we could do well on the End of Course tests so that they could get their raises. Now I see why the economy is failing and we have elected officials into office who invade countries to make their daddies feel better about his failing to do so; because teachers teach kids to go along with whatever somone tells them to do. Its time for leaders and a change in the way teachers teach. I plan on helping in that change, but I can't help but wonder if the damage that's been done is too much already.

I feel the same way a and I
I feel the same way a and I really want to do something about it I want to see our school systems change. By the time I am a teacher I hope that enough of us have the guts to stand up and be heard and make a change we are not I most definitely will never be the governments puppet!
Seeing the Light
Over the years, schools have been showing this behavior for some time now. People need to see "The Light" about what is occuring in public schools rather than what is fabricated by news reporters such as John Stossel on 20/20. Teachers should not care about their job money wise because if they did before they originally started becoming one, they would not have been one in the first place. Teachers will get their raise when the majority of their students are successful in passing school. Shouldn't that be the first priority not the raise?
I agree
The same thing happened in my high school. i feel that I did not learn all that I needed to learn, only the things that were going to be on the test. And i feel that the teachers just wanted to get paid and they did not worry about how they were teaching the material or if it was even being taught so that the studnets understood it to their full potential.

good thinking
I totally agree with you. I think it's stupid that the main thought in a lot of teachers heads are to get paid and for their students to do good on the end of grade tests mainly to get their raises. I think that is awful because if you wanted to be a teacher you need to be one for the RIGHT reasons. I don't see why that would happen becuase teachers don't get paid good anyways. It is important for teachers to be in it for the right reasons and hopefully the government will change once our political system changes next year.... hopefully.
Agree
I think that this is a common view point that future teachers as well as already in the classroom teachers agree upon. It basically seems that the motivation behind education and our student's goals is money. It's funny to think that the education we are giving our children is not even going to beneift them when they graduate. They will either fail and feel that they have not achieved anything or were unsuccessful because they don't have money or when they have money they wont need the knowledge because they will just pay other people to know things and be educated for them. I think the poeple that should be setting a good example really aren't doing a good job and I think that the main job for teachers now is to set a good example and try to change these kids to make a better society when they get out of school.
