Physical Education

I touched on this in my first blog but it is still bothering me. Alot of the issues we are talking about in class just don't seem to impact the gym teacher that much. I'm beginning to think this maybe why some people don't consider PE teachers to be "real" teachers". I’m sure this course will help me understand the plight of my fellow teachers. Perhaps I will better understand when I start my internship and truly begin to see all that is involved in running a smooth PE program.

Whenever I feel I don't

Whenever I feel I don't need to learn something, I stop those thoughts right away and try to focus on how this information can apply to me and what I want to do.  I feel that I can learn from everything and everyone.  so don't give up, keep searching for what you feel could be important to you as a PE teacher.  And always remember, every type of teacher is important based on what they are able teach an individual.  Sure you are not teaching out of a textbook but there are many lessons you can teach that are much more valuable.

physical education is a

physical education is a crucial part of a school day for students.  regardless of what people think about PE teachers, in my opinion they are as real of teachers as the ones that stand in front of a class and lecture all day.  they have a harder job, because they have to come up with specific activities to involve the whole class and have the class enjoy participating.

I think PE is critical I

I think PE is critical I just responsded to a blog pertaining to the concerns of obesity in the school, Im no genius but seems to me like to stop obesity it starts with being acting in PE and knowing about kinesiology and exercise physioogy.. If you teach the concept of exercise to students when they are young than it will go along way.

That is not true

P.E. teachers are critical. I will give you the best reason of all: The school would not have this position if it were not critical (they do not like to spend money on things that are unnecessary). You will play a key role in a child's life. Remember back to when you were in elementary school and what was your favorite time of time (besides lunch and art)? P.E., of course. I know that everyone has touch on this, but with the overwhelming obesity issue in the United States you are important.

You are the only person that knows how to (or should know) teach the kids to eat healthy and exercise. You are an encourager for kids to get out there and be active. To play, have fun, and be healthy. If all the P.E. teachers geared toward fitting childhood obesity, then think how much of a better place this would be. We would not be know as the most unhealthiest countries in the world. Know one thinks we are threat because they all have the myth we are big (this is not a quote or actual find something, just something to lighten your mood). You are important!

I enjoyed PE as well! That

I enjoyed PE as well! That was one class that I was always excited for. It was not always required, and I really wish my school had us take more PE classes. Exercise is such an important part of a child's life and with a great increase in child obesity it believe PE should be an important part of the curriculum.

I'm going to be healthy in 40 years are you?

I am a future PE teacher and I feel and see that all the time.  I see that a lot of people laugh and say your going to be a "gym" teacher when gym is not even a field of study it's a place.  It just shows the intelligence level of some of the people out their that are saying this stuff.  By the way weight problems in youth are by far as bad as its ever been.  Their are more overweight kids now then there was twenty years ago.  Look up the information before you start saying that PE is not real teaching, in my opinion its more important then some of the other bogus classes you have to take in high school.  What other class do you take in high school that directly effects your health.  I just want to be there to tell these people I told you so when they have a heart-attack when their 55.

I love PE

I loved my PE teachers...I beleive that they are great teachers!  I also think it's hard to be a PE teacher because i know in some of my classes there were alot of lazy kids that want to just make excuses and not participate and my teacher would give them some sort of reward if they did complete the task.  That is beaing a "real" teacher.  Knowing your students and how to motivate them.

PE teachers are great

I'm really sorry that you feel PE teachers aren't treated as real teachers.  I'm sure this is the case with a lot of instructors in public schools, even though their job is just as challenging as any one else's.  I remember my PE teachers from middle and high school, and I always loved those classes.  It was always so much fun, and I learned so much about myself during those times.

I also feel that being a PE

I also feel that being a PE teacher is just as important as being any kind of educator. Just because they don't teach, as you would call them "core "classes they still teach a very important part of life. I can and still to this day can say PE was my favorite class in grade school. Not only did i learn about how to be and stay health but i learned how to play sports. What more could you ask for in a class.

PE Teachers Rock!

Hey, Shane Malek!

I want to reassure you, as the mother of four children who have all benefitted greatly from their PE classes over the years, that your job as a PE teacher is a vital one. Currently, my sixth-grade son rates his P.E. class as his "absolute favorite subject", and he tells me all about his P.E. adventures (and mis-adventures) every day on the ride home from school.

He is getting exposure to games and skills that we have no way of teaching him ourselves at home. For example, while he is very good at making baskets in our driveway, I am not a basketball player, so I can't teach him techniques or game rules. But, thank goodness, his P.E. teacher at school is making sure he learns this. As he improves, his self-esteem soars. When he has an "off day" in P.E., he learns a little bit of humility. Last week, they were practicing batting with a foam-type ball and a plastic bat. My son was embarrassed that he wasn't very good at it. Humble pie, perhaps, but I think he did get better as they practiced. Thus, he is learning perseverance, which is a very important life-time character trait.

This week, they have moved on to learning ping-pong (er, table tennis). Lucky for my boy, he plays ping-pong with his dad in our garage all the time, and he's enjoying looking like a champ in front of all the other kids. When he made a too-proud comment about how So-and-So "hits the ball so hard, it goes all the way across the gym!", I had a good teachable moment to talk to him about pride, gloating, and unkind attitudes toward others. P.E. is golden, as far as I'm concerned--not only do P.E. teachers teach skills that build physical, athletic coordination, they also enforce the student's development of his or her executive functions (i.e. brain), and personal character.

P.E. teachers are very important in our childrens' lives! You are golden!!
