Transformative Leadership within the COE
Hello. My name is DaLena. I am working on a transformative leadership project with three of my fellow classmates. Our project is how make sure new students who hoping to become members of the College of Education be more aware of what they are getting into. This project focuses on my group members and I being mentors to those prospective people. I believe being mentoring in the College of Education will be good because there may be some us who think teaching is just about standing in front of students professing our knowledge then giving worksheets to see if they comprehend. However, it is so much more that. I really learned in EDUC 3200 and my other higher level ELEM classes that teaching invoves alot of politics. This has not detoured me from the education degree I wish to attain but I wish I given a more detailed description of what an educator is and what a educator does than just the general description I entered college with.
How many of you feel that you would have been more confident if you had mentor in the College of Education who told you what really occurs in the courses you sign up for and what to expect in becoming in educator? Do any of you someone that I or my group may contact that will be willing to help get our idea off the ground so that it will actually become a part of the College of Education?

Great Idea!!!
This is really a great idea and just as others have said, I feel that if there were mentors in The College of Education there could possibly be more people coming into the profession and those who are already thinking about it will know about everything that comes along with being a teacher. It is very important to know all about the career path you're choosing and if there is something that you didn't know about before becoming a teacher that can really be a burden and could cause you to no longer look at the profession as a positive one. We do have to realize that teaching is so much more than just standing in front of a class and telling them facts about different subjects. In order for you to really become acquainted with your job and you students, than you have to know everything about each.
WOW! Your idea is pure
WOW! Your idea is pure genius. I wish so bad that i would have had someone to help guide me through tough times and tell me what really went on in college and what classes to take first and such. This idea is really something that the school should consider. Having mentors for the education majors might promote more people pursuing a degree in education. I hope this idea works!
Mentors
If I had a mentor in the college of education, I would most definitly feel more confident and have more of an understanding of the college as a whole. This is an awesome idea, that will benefit everyone. Having mentors allows us to bounce ideas off of them and hear about their experiences. Good Luck on this project!! Hopefully this will actually happen!!
