Needed: Mischief Makers--$5,000.00 Reward
Fellow educators, have you seen the nasty campaign to identify America's ten worst teachers?
How sick is this? Very. Hardly worth the electrons even linking to it.
Understand though, that this is the world you are entering. There is so much money to be made in privatizing education, that corporate high-rollers are willing to invest up front in hate organizations, mis-information campaigns and general slime operations to get the job done.
In this case, the front organization Center for Union Facts is, as could be guessed, simply a right-wing anti-union hoax squad with absolutely no legitimacy in terms of organizational integrity, transparency or reliance on fact. Read about them and their slime-demon, Rick Berman, in the above link.
Anyone want to have a little fun at their expense?
I sure hope so. Here's the plan:
They are taking in nominations for their "worst union protected teacher" here. That means that anyone, including you or me, is free to create a profile of their worst all-time teacher.
Wouldn't it be fun if one of us could make up a profile of a teacher, create a story about someone fictional, and get it on their site? Nay, not only get it on their site, but get their story selected as one of the ten worst?
Why? Because, you see, after this so-called "truth squad" picks one of our fake teacher stories, we can go to the media and expose the little charade they are playing on the public: how little interest they have in teachers, teaching and the truth. And how their real game is to slime teachers and create a fake frame about how bad teachers are in America so that they can make millions in the for-profit education market.
This would be a massive pie in the face for these folks. And, it would not be hard to pull off. Anyone interested in doing this, I am willing to give you my name and place of employment if you want to nominate me. In fact, it would be great if a whole bunch of people nominated me and I won. Then, I could step forward to the media, with a bunch of my students (I'm actually a pretty decent educator), and expose these frauds for the phony reformers they are.
If you don't want to nominate me, then either make up a fictitious teacher, or find a real one who is willing to accept you using them as a guinea pig.
If I win, I promise to reimburse you half of the $10,000.00 that I get for quitting my job. I'm serious!
Please, give this a shot.
If nothing else we will deluge their poorly paid staff with stories so that they have to waste a lot of time digging through and fact-checking until they are unable to find actual stories from the fake ones.

Sickening...
...what is to be gained from such a program? Since when is tearing down an individual a productive thing...ever? I believe that there are poor, untrained, and possibly HORRIBLE teachers. However, that should be handled on a local level and never escalated or publicized in such a manner. What if we voted on the top 10 idiots and these "reformers" were voted in the top 10? Would they find it quite so funny then? Would they find it quite so uplifting or reforming? My guess is no, they wouldn't. In fact, they'd probably feel quite insulted and probably fail in their capacity of compassion beyond what they are now. This program is uncalled for. The human beings ability to laugh at the expense/suffering of others is sickening especially when it's as damaging as this.
