Failing or Not

My name is Christina Merrida and I am in Dr. Gabbards EDU 3200 class. My transformative leadership project is on how when you come to ECU as a freshman and your struggling with a class or failing a class you get a email sayign how your endangereed of failing and potientally on academic probation. From expericence I think that is a good idea  because then its kind of a kick in your butt to get things together. But what happens when your a sophmore, junior or senior. You know longer get those emails. I know that you have more experience, but then it brings you back to the question of equality and fairness. Should we just help the people who we identify as failing or should we put all concern out to all of our students...think about it.!

Until next time.

Transformative Leadership Project

For my transformative leadership project, my group and I decided to discuss ways of making classes smaller.  In a lot of the general education classes, there are up to 200 plus students.  This could make it hard for a student to get that one on one help with the teacher.  Attendance is not required in a lot of the general education classes, and with the classes being made smaller then students will be more likely to attend and recieve the help they need.  If more teachers were brought in to teach the general education classes, or team teaching was brought up then I believe that the classes would become smaller and students would do better in these classes.

Transformative Leadership within the COE

Hello. My name is DaLena. I am working on a transformative leadership project with three of my fellow classmates. Our project is how make sure new students who hoping to become members of the College of Education be more aware of what they are getting into. This project focuses on my group members and I being mentors to those prospective people. I believe being mentoring in the College of Education will be good because there may be some us who think teaching is just about standing in front of students professing our knowledge then giving worksheets to see if they comprehend. However, it is so much more that. I really learned in EDUC 3200 and my other higher level ELEM classes that teaching invoves alot of politics.

Transformative Leadership

I am a part of a group that is doing a project to improve the College of Education requirements for prospective teachers that graduate from East Carolina University.  In this project, we will be trying to change the course requirements to include a class based on multiculturalism and diversity so that new teachers can be better prepared to face diversity within their new classrooms. With this project, we hope to achieve a change in the curriculum of the college for the better of the students, as well as their future students when they become teachers.  All in all, we would like to get in touch with the people that can help us achieve this task.

Can't we have both?

So I got to thinking, and observing how classes are taught. Usually at the University level you have about 100 or so in the general classes, and then once you get into the core of your degree, the classes become smaller. This typically allows for better opportunities to interact with your peers who are going to be in the same subject area as yourself. One thing that I have noticed in the college, is that testing seems to have become more technologically advanced. Testing seems to take place on the computer than more so in the classroom. This is really irritating to myself, as I seem to test better when in the classroom than at home or the computer lab taking a test. The concentration is ten times better in the classroom than else where.

Transformative Leadership Project

In Dr. Gabbard's class, my group has decided to do the transformative leadership project. The basis of our project is a sort of mentoring program for incoming students to the college's education program. We will give these students insight into what they should expect in reference to their major. I feel this is good experience for our group, and we wish to establish a long lasting program at ECU. We would like for the people we are mentoring to take our places when we are gone and do the same for the new incoming students. This is a sort of orientation program. But it is more detailed and personal. We can all get together and answer any questions and problems that they might have. It seems like a very exciting project that we are all ready to get started on.

Transformative Leadership Project

Recently, our class has started our projects on either a Professional Leadership Project or a Transformative Leadership Project. My 2 partners and I decided to do Transformative Leadership, and our goal is to add two more classes to the Education Curriculum that focuses on multiculturalism and teaches students about other cultures. The reason we chose to do this is because slowly our community is becoming more and more diverse within culture, and if we plan on being effective teachers, we must have background knowledge of other cultures. We plan on talking to Debbie Oneal, Vivian Covington, and Roxene Barrett in order to get our ideas across, and hopefully be able to start the process of implementing our idea.

Is Class Sizes a Problem?

In my Education 3200 class we are doing a transformative leadership project and the subject that my group and I chose to tackle was the problems with class sizes here at the University.  Class sizes to me are very important because depending on how big or small or class is can really have an effect on how well you do in the class.  Most of the general education courses here at ECU are the classes with too many students.  For example, my chemistry class has like 200 people in there so there was hardly any time for me to get one on one help with my professor because there was so many of us.  Having bigger classes can effect the way students hear what the teacher is saying, rather or not they can actually see notes on the board, most students wont even show knowing the teacher doesn&#3

How people out of the teaching profession view teaching

Recently my education class at East Carolina University we have been discussing how people view the teacing profession. It really makes me mad that most people think that teaching is not a real profession and that we are just babysitters while our students children are at work. What I don't understand is how these "educated" people can say these things because without teachers they wouldn't be in the profession they are in today. When I tell people what my major is it seems like half the people support me but the other half say oh your just going to be a teacher. Some people even say that why did you pick an easy major when I am so smart and I could have done so much more. I totally disagree with people that think teaching is easy or dosen't take brains.
